Backyard Vignette

Have you seen the latest Country Living?  The cover got me thinking.....and I came up with this.

Actually, I owe props to my friend Chris.  Last year she had an adorable scene set up on her front porch.

I may add ice skates and/or a pair of skis to the scene, after we get some snow, but for now I like it.

You might remember this sled; I blogged about it here.

I'm really excited about using it in this scene.
Everything else I found in my travels to Sally Ann's.

I've discovered I have an affinity for the old plaid Thermos brand thermoses.
It seems like every time I walk into Sally Ann's, one just happens to follow me home.
The black lunch box; that was a curbside find.....

I would also like to thank my friends, Angela and Joe, for donating the birch logs to the cause.  They had no idea what I was going to do with them.  After sending Angela an email asking where I could get some, I found them neatly stacked on my sidewalk the very next morning.  Thanks guys.

This scene is set up in a corner of my backyard; it's a great focal point as you enter my backyard.

I love seeing this every day.

It just makes me smile.

Thanks for stopping by.

I Scored a Chair

Check this chair out.
I found it at a garage sale up north on Friday.
The price tag said $15, which was about $10 more than I was willing to pay.

I returned to the garage sale on Saturday and the price tag now said $10, which was still $5 too much.  I offered her $5 and she bit.

SCORE.

I know, I know, she needs some work, but for $5 I can mess this one up.

This lady has legs.

I know, I have some springs to tie back up.  My girlfriend Patti, who was with  me on my second  trip to the garage sale, has a book on how to do this.

But don't look for the after pictures any time soon.

I'm leaving it up north for now.  I don't want to give my husband heart failure.  wink wink.  Honestly, there isn't room in my car.

For now, I leave you with this last picture.

I love it.

Score anything lately?  I'd love to hear about it.

Banker Chair Makeover

I finally finished this chair.  Actually, it's been done for some time but I just haven't been able to take very good shots of it.  My home office just doesn't offer very good light.
Here it is after I took it apart but before I started stripping it.

I used the orange stripper but had to go to the stripping gel to get the job done.

My husband cleaned the joint of the arm and re-glued it.

I've done a lot of furniture stripping, sanding, staining etc. but I'm still not a fan of it.
It's a lot of work, period.

I boiled all the metal parts in water and baking soda, scrubbed with a wire brush and steel wool, then primed and painted glossy black.
At the end of the day, it was worth it.

Love it.

Sorry about the shadowy/blurry pictures...........

I used my favorite go-to fabric......a drop-cloth from Home Depot and hot glued some the trim on.
I cut the drop-cloth to size then sprayed it with 2 coats of scotch guard.  I did the same to the trim.

I also stained it with a Cabot mahogany stain that had been custom mixed but found it's way onto the oops paint shelf at Lowe's.  I then applied Min-Wax clear wax and buffed it to a nice shine.

I love it.

What have you been working on; I'd love to know?

Disney/Pixar Blog Hop and a Giveaway - 3rd Edition

Today I'm participating in this blog hop and I'm so excited.  You should be arriving from Jamie's blog over at Jamie Lane Designs but if you just happen to be stopping by and want to follow this from the beginning then you'll want to go to Shawn's blog over at Crafty Chic's Blog.

For my project I baked sugar cookies in the shape of Mickey Mouse's head.  These cookies are super delicious and I'll give you the recipe.

I frosted them with royal icing and added food coloring to jazz them up.  I wanted to stick with the primary colors of Mickey Mouse while keeping the frosting job simple and kid-like.

I want to give Melissa over at DISNEY DREAMER DESIGNS a shout out for loaning me her cookie cutter.

Thank you Melissa.

This recipe can be found here and I must warn you, this recipe makes A LOT of cookies.

Now onto the give away:

Today my blog candy give away is a brand new Cricut Cartridge of Pooh and Friends.  To be entered you must become a follower and leave a comment on this post.  If you're already a follower just leave me a comment letting me know.

You will have until Wednesday morning September 28, 2011 at 9 AM EST to enter for my blog candy. The winner will be announced that same day and I will use Random Org to draw the winner.  The winner will have one week to contact me and claim their prize.

Now go see Susan at the next stop on the blog hop over at Cricut for Beginners.  I can't wait to see what she has to show us.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you'll be back soon.....I'll be revealing another furniture make-over this week and I'd love for you to check it out.

Curbside Cabinet Finished

Remember this?

This is a cabinet that my girlfriend picked up for me off the curb.  You can read about it here.

I cleaned it with my favorite stuff, TSP.  Then I gave the outside two coats of  Ultra-White Semi-Gloss paint from Lowe's.

My husband added these details to the bottom.

I painted the inside a very light green to match the nightstand in my daughter's room.

We found out that this cabinet used to be a built-in.  This is the left side of the built-in.

You can see the edge, above, where it attached to the wall.  In the picture below you can see a square area where another column sat on the top right of the cabinet.

I decided to leave the top stained dark to give it more of a furniture feel.

My daughter loves this in her room.

I do too.

Have a great weekend.
